I know got me through the game easy. Athough replaced it with Chansey after the Elite 4 because it had gotten quite useless, in the original games sp.def and sp att count as one so chansey also has a monster sp.att it's awesome.

Metang, Excadrill or Golurk are good pokemon you can find endgame, I'd hold back Metang's evolution until level 48 so it gets Meteor Mash(or just get one at the dark grass if its there).

Just caught a Sneasal which happened to be Adamant nature and it was holding a quick claw, so I'm quite happy with that. Although Metagross would of been great too
