Nintendo have partnered with the multi award winning Aardman Animations, the creators of Chicken Run and Wallace And Gromit to offer Nintendo 3DS ™ owners brand new 3D SpotPass ™ content for free. From 7th March, on a weekly basis, fans of the farmyard antics of Shaun the Sheep will be able to watch 15 exclusive 3D clips of Shaun and his friends getting up to some brand new mischief.

Available to view for free via Nintendo Video ™, each clip features Shaun and his flock embarking on brand new 3D adventures for the first time. The whole gang are there including Shaun, Timmy, Bitzer, the Farmer and the flock and each week you will be able to watch them like never before via Nintendo 3DS.

The first episode is available to receive via an internet connection from 7th March and sees Shaun and the gang heading out for a picnic. Can they enjoy a nice relaxing day out in the countryside or will the Farmer’s fishing trip get in the way?

"As with all 3D, it comes back to the brain's ability to put displaced images together," Sproxton says. "We shoot right eye content and left eye content. Conventional 3D cameras have two lenses, both a little distance apart. Our character models are too small for that - we couldn't get two lenses that close - so we actually take a shot, move the camera a few millimetres, and then take another. In post production, that gets put back together as a single 3D frame." - David Sproxton, Aardman co-founder

"Nintendo approached us before they launched the 3DS last year. They'd seen our characters and they wanted content for the handheld. They asked what our most international brand was, and that's Shaun the Sheep. It was quite a smart move, really. I think they realised we've been in 200 countries worldwide, it's silent comedy so it travels, and it's slapstick so it works well in little snippets. This is exactly the kind of thing we're best at doing. We started thinking about the series, and then we sent them, I think, 15 little paragraphs of episode ideas. I think we did rough storyboards, and they said fine. We sent them other storyboards, and they liked them too. In the end, they just said, "You know what you're doing, make it work, and, if you can, see if you can get a 3D element into the gags." Then they just let us get on with it."

5th March 2012 – The first exclusive 3D episode of Shaun the Sheep will be available this coming Wednesday, 7th March, and only Nintendo 3DS owners can receive the episodes via Nintendo Video. As part of a partnership between Nintendo and the multi-award winning Aardman Animations, the creators of Chicken Run and Wallace & Gromit, Nintendo 3DS owners will receive the brand new 3D SpotPass content for free.
 
Nintendo and Aardman will be releasing 15 clips featuring Shaun and his flock embarking on brand new adventures, available in 3D for the first time. All of your farmyard favourites are featured in the series including Shaun, Timmy, Bitzer, the Farmer and the flock, and each week you will be able to watch them like never before via Nintendo 3DS.
 
The first episode is available to receive via SpotPass from 7th March and sees Shaun and the gang heading out for a relaxing picnic; unfortunately the Farmer’s fishing trip in the adjacent field is set to spoil their tranquil meal.
 
To view the Shaun the Sheep episodes, make sure you have downloaded the free Nintendo Video application from Nintendo eShop. The exclusive clips can then be received via the SpotPass feature whenever your Nintendo 3DS is connected to the Internet via Wi-Fi, even when your Nintendo 3DS is in Sleep Mode. There are now thousands of public Wi-Fi hotspots across Europe, meaning that you can even get Shaun the Sheep while you are on the go.
